Mary Gordon presents at Communities Collaborative Brain Development Conference, “Building Strong Children”

5 August 2012: Mary Gordon was a keynote speaker at the 12th annual Communities Collaborative Brain Development Conference on White Earth Reservation in Northwest Minnesota, taking place August 7th-9th, 2012.

The gathering attracted an impressive 1,000 health workers, social workers, head start staff, child care providers, foster parents and parents – all working with children. Past conference speakers include Dr. Bruce Perry and Temple Grandin, who spoke on child development as well as family and community involvement.

Gordon presented on the importance of early childhood social and emotional learning, describing how both the Roots of Empathy and Seeds of Empathy programs have been proven effective in fostering early social/emotional competence: reducing levels of aggression – including bullying – and increasing empathy.
