“The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavor benefitting the province and its residents,” said Mr. Crosbie. “The individuals recognized today embody the true spirit of the Order through their selflessness, devotion and dedication to improving the lives of their fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.”

Gordon was honoured for her contributions as an educator, social entrepreneur and child advocate. Since 2001, Roots of Empathy has reached almost 11,000 students in the province and has grown to include programs in all of the school districts. Seeds of Empathy is being introduced in Newfoundland for the first time, with pilot programs beginning in Coastal Labrador this fall.
